Paavo Järvi launches New Talent platform at the Pärnu Music Festival

Paavo Järvi has announced the launch of a new performance platform, dedicated to showcasing and promoting soloists at the start of their international careers. Presented as part of the annual Pärnu Music Festival, the Young Talents initiative reinforces Järvi’s commitment to professional mentorship and support of the next generation.

For the inaugural concert on 14 July, Järvi has invited three exceptional young soloists to perform with the Estonian Festival Orchestra: Paloma So in the Sibelius Violin Concerto, Anaëlle Tourret in Handel’s Harp Concerto, and Tähe-Lee Liiv in Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1.

“The Pärnu Music Festival has always been about more than just concerts; it’s about passing the torch,” says Paavo Järvi. “By creating this platform, we are giving these incredible soloists the space to collaborate with the Estonian Festival Orchestra, helping them bridge the gap between being a ‘young talent’ and a professional international artist.”

◆ Canadian-Chinese pianist, Paloma So first gained recognition as a prize winner at the Wieniawski Competition and is currently pursuing a dual degree at Harvard and the New England Conservatory under Donald Weilerstein.

◆ French harpist Anaëlle Tourret is the Principal Harpist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg, a position she earned at just 25 years old. A protégé of Xavier de Maistre, her debut album, Perspectives, was nominated for the 2023 International Classical Music Awards.

◆ Estonian pianist Tähe-Lee Liiv gained national fame as the youngest winner of the Estonian television talent show Klassikatähed in 2020. She was selected for Andras Schiff’s prestigious “Building Bridges” project in 2024 and has appeared as soloist with the Estonian National Symphony and Kremerata Baltica.

Championing Estonian Contemporary Music 

Continuing its commitment to new Estonian music, the festival has, for the third year running, commissioned two orchestral works by female composers to be premiered by Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra: Piove by Liisa Hõbepappel (b. 1994) and Flood by Evelin Seppar (b. 1986).

The programme also includes the premieres of Secret Garden, a Viola Concerto by Tõnu Kõrvits, performed on 11 July by Amihai Grosz and the Estonian Festival Orchestra, and At the Edge of the Bottomless Sea, a Double Flute Concerto by Märt-Matis Lill, performed by Henri Christofer Aavik with the Pärnu City Orchestra and soloists Maarika Järvi and Monika Mattiesen.

Welcome to the Pärnu Music Festival – Estonia’s summer-camp for the musical architects of tomorrow.

World-famous top soloists, a spectacular concert programme, and conductors Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi and Kristjan Järvi will bring unforgettable musical experiences to Pärnu from 8–18 July 2026.

The world premieres of new works by Estonian composers heard from the Pärnu Music Festival stage attract growing international attention every year. An outstanding and varied programme of classical masterpieces has placed the festival among Europe’s most important summer classical music festivals. In 2026, Paavo Järvi will, for the first time, launch a young talents programme within the festival, presenting brilliant rising soloists alongside top international artists and offering them the opportunity for a first major stage debut.

Paavo Järvi: “I see my job more as a facilitator of composers and young musicians that I can help. Because at one point somebody helped me. Everybody needs someone to open the door and it’s my turn now.”

The Pärnu Music Festival loves Pärnu — a beautiful pearl on the Baltic Sea, where sandy beaches and parks, cafés and summer resort create a unique atmosphere. For the 16th year in a row, the festival fills Pärnu’s acclaimed concert hall with music for eleven days. After the concert, a walk by the sea — with midsummer evenings still bright — is inspiring, refreshing, and energising.
