Night Concert
Pärnu City Orchestra
Conductor Henri Christofer Aavik
Soloist Maarika Järvi
This summer, the dimly varied atmosphere of the beloved night concert is featuring the Pärnu City Orchestra, the leading classical music ensemble in the western part of Estonia, which has been celebrating its 30th birthday this season.
The programme invites listeners to reflect on topics concerning freedom and peace, whether it’s through Ives’s musical portrayal of the peaceful world before the Great War, Eller’s yearning for independence, tango as a cultic dance shaped by former slaves, Weinberg’s ingenious self-expression under strict artistic censorship, Foote’s music from the post-war era, or Silvestrov’s “Prayer for the Ukraine”.
Setting the mood, Estonian flautist Maarika Järvi will appear as a soloist. The concert will be led by young prize-winning Estonian conductor Henri Christofer Aavik, the new Chief Conductor of the Pärnu City Orchestra.
