Estonian soprano Arete Kerge has studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Docent Nadia Kurem and at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Italy with Maestra Rebecca Berg obtaining her Master's degree with maximum grade.
In 2010 she was awarded the First Prize at the Santa Chiara Classical Singing Competition in the category of Sacred Music, winning the Chori Praefecti award. She has also received the Third Prize from the International Opera Singers Competition 2011 in Spoleto, Italy (Concorso Comunita' Europea). In the same year she was awarded with the Premio Via Vittoria which is given to the best singer at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia. In 2014 Arete Kerge won First Prize at Concours Flame in Paris. In 2015 she received the Richard Wagner Society Bayreuth Scholarship. In Estonia she has been awarded the PLMF Marje and Kuldar Sink award "Young Singer 2010".
Arete Kerge has participated in the Master Classes of Gabriella Tucci, Renato Bruson, Ines Salazar, Joanna Kozlovska and Karan Armstrong. In 2013 she attended the "Accademia Rossiniana" (conductor Alberto Zedda) in Pesaro, Italy. She has collaborated with conductors and pianists such as Carlo Palleschi, Olari Elts, Darrell Ang, Andreas Kowalewitz, Frédérick Haas, Rupert Dussmann, Marco Boemi, Enza Ferrari, Marco Forgione, Hilary Griffiths, Jurjen Hempel, William Kunhardt, Mihkel Poll, Piia Paemurru and François Gassion. Arete Kerge has performed with the renowned Belgian baroque ensemble Ausonia at the Festival de l'Abbaye de Saint-Michel en Thiérache, Festival de Musique Ancienne de Ribeauville in France and at the Tallinn Chamber Music Festival in Estonia. Furthermore, she has sang at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto in Italy, Estonian National Opera, EAMT Opera Studio etc. In addition, she has sang with the world-famous Italian baritone Renato Bruson celebrating his 50 years on opera stages. In 2012 she had a solo recital at the largest opera festival in Estonia, "Saaremaa Opera Days". As a soloist, Arete Kerge has performed in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Poland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, Switzerland, Barbados and Canada.
Her opera roles include the Governess (Britten's The Turn of the Screw), Angelica and Genovieffa (Puccini's Suor Angelica), Fanny (Rossini's La Cambiale di Matrimonio), Madama Vezzosa (Ciampi's Le Favola dei Tre Gobbi), Lisetta (Leo's La Zingaretta), Kate Pinkerton (Puccini's Madama Butterfly), Rosina (Mozart's La Finta Semplice), Nella (Puccini's Gianni Schicchi), Sandrina (Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera) etc. Arete Kerge is also highly valued as an oratorio soloist, having sung solo parts in Handel's "Resurrezione" (Maria Maddalena), Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater", Vivaldi's "Gloria", "Magnificat", Bach's "St. John Passion" BWV 245, "Magnificat" BWV243, "Coffee Cantata" BWV 211, cantata "Ach Gott, wie manches Herzeleid" BWV 58, Charpentier's "Te Deum", "Messe de Minuit", Mozart's "Requiem" K626, "Missa brevis in G major" K140, "Exultate, jubilate" K165, Menelssohn-Bartholdy's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Magnificat", Lepnurm's cantata "Redemption in Christ", Kangur's "Magnificat", Tobias-Duesberg's "Requiem", Sisask's "Missa nr.1" etc.
