Mart Kuusma began studying viola in 2009 at the Tallinn Music High School under the guidance of Toomas Nestor. In 2013, he went on to the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre to study with the same teacher. In 2016, Mart chose to advance his studies at Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Germany) in the class of Prof Diemut Poppen where he continues to study today. Mart has also participated in masterclasses and lessons by Máté Szűcs, Veit Hertenstein, Peijun Xu, Christian Euler, Nils Mönkemeyer, Hermann Menninghaus, Krzysztof Chorzelski, Xandi van Dijk, Ula Ulijona Zebriunaite and Alexander and Mikhail Zemtsov. He has participated in chamber music competitions and has won the 2nd prize with a piano trio in the Pavasario Sonata chamber music competition in Lithuania (2012). In 2021, he won a two-year residency programme for instrumental ensembles, funded by the music endowment of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia with his string quartet M4GNET. Mart has also played and participated in the work of several orchestras, including the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Detmolder Kammerorchester (Germany), Estonian National Opera Orchestra, Virumaa Chamber Orchestra and Järvi Academy Sinfonietta. In the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons he was a laureate of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra Academy.
