Born in Dresden, Gregor Witt studied oboe under Professor Gerd Albrecht Kleinfeld from 1985–1989 at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. He soon became solo oboist at the Mecklenburgisches Staatskapelle in Schwerin and the Komische Oper in Berlin, and then at the Staatsoper Berlin in 1993, under Daniel Barenboim. In 2015, while at the Staatsoper Berlin, he received a professorship for the oboe and chamber music at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, where he had been teaching since 2004. He regularly gives international master classes at the Juilliard School in New York, as well as in Norway, Finland, Japan, Russia and Poland, and teaches oboe as a guest professor at the Barenboim-Said Akademie. Witt has also taken part in notable festivals, and has been a guest performer at the Lockenhaus International Chamber Music Festival, the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, and at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He works as a conductor in different chamber orchestras and has been leading the Mecklenburgische Bläserakademie, which he co-founded, since 2006. In 2015, his first solo CD, My Oboe, was released by RBB Berlin with Daniel Barenboim accompanying him in Robert Schumann’s Romance for Oboe and Piano.
