Mari Targo (b. 1986): "I have always had a constant wish for improvement and a great interest especially in ensemble music. Paradoxically this interest has been greatly affected by my experiences with symphony orchestras; having been a part of Estonian National Opera Orchestra, but also several international projects (i.e. Orkester Norden, Baltic Youth Philharmonic, European Union Youth Orchestra).
The amount of repertoire played in these orchestras, alongside exciting conductors and excellent musicians, has given me invaluable experiences with which to better understand and reflect upon my musical endeavors. I feel comfortable now when switching between Piazzola tangos on the modern violin and historic interpretation on the baroque violin; or when having to play contemporary classics with a mixed ensemble right after a string orchestra set with classical repertoire.
I have found it truly inspiring being a part of “Insomnia” quartet (Mari Targo, Valeria Rjumina, Mairit Mitt and Theodor Sink), with whom we have had plenty of concerts in the last four years.
I have taken part of Pärnu Music Festival since its beginnings in 2009 and this year I will be performing with Estonian Festivial Orchestra and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra with whom I am starting my seventh season."
