Delphine Biron (cello, France) studied under Michel Strauss at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris. With a deep interest in baroque music, she studied baroque cello with Christophe Coin, Bruno Cocset and David Simpson.
She also participated in the Festival of Lucerne’s Academy of the 20th Century directed by Pierre Boulez and is now a regular guest performer with ensembles specializing in contemporary music, such as Ensemble Itinéraire, Smash Ensemble, and Ensemble InterContemporain.
In addition, several solo compositions for cello have been dedicated to her. In 2002, she joined the European Union Young Orchestra, and in 2005 became a permanent member of the cello section of the Paris Orchestra. For a year, she has regularly been invited to perform with the cello section of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Biron frequently gives solo recitals, and often performs electro-acoustic and chamber music. In 2011 she also joined Quatuor Thymos and has played with them in many famous concert halls. Delphine Biron has recorded some CDs featuring the music of André Jolivet, Martin Kutnowsky, Olivier Greif and Antonio Vivaldi. She plays on a French Joseph Hel cello (1889).
